ZURA SEKHNIASHVILI

LABIRYNTH

12.12.2025-07.01.2026

Vernisage Gallery presents ZURA SEKHNIASHVILI: LABYRINTH.

The display brings together metal collages created between the 1970s and the 2000s.
This marks the artist’s third solo exhibition at the gallery and accompanies the second catalogue dedicated exclusively to his metal-collage practice. Since its founding in 1996, Vernissage Gallery has continuously represented and supported Sekhniashvili’s artistic legacy.

During 1970s Zura Sekhniashvili became a member of the nonconformist movement. This was a period in which a new visual language emerged beyond the oversight of the Soviet regime.

The work of Avto Varazi, Otar Chkhartishvili, Temo Japaridze, Vakhtang (Vati) Davitashvili, Amir Kakabadze, Vakhtang Rurua, Fridon Gotsiridze, and Zaal Megvinetukhutsesi formed the driving force behind this artistic movement, to which Sekhniashvili belonged.

Documenting, researching, and exhibiting the work of nonconformist Georgian artists remains one of Vernissage Gallery’s central commitments.

The present exhibition, Labyrinth, is dedicated to what would have been the artist’s 80th anniversary.
