Serapion Vatsadze (1899-1967)
was born in 1899 in the village of Gvardia, Ambrolauri district.
He graduated from Tbilisi State Academy of Art in 1925.
1913-1917 He studied and worked with private individuals to paint buildings.
1920-1921 He worked as an artist-decorator's assistant at the Opera and Ballet Theater.
1922-1927 He studied at the Tbilisi Art Academy at the Faculty of Sculpture and Decorative Arts.
1926-1927 He worked as an artist-decorator in the Kutaisi Drama Theater.
1927-1929 Vatsadze was in Moscow and worked as an artist-decorator in various institutions.
Since 1929 S. Vatsadze's life was finally connected with the film studio "Sakhkinmretsvi" (from 1953 - "Georgian Film"), where he was an artist-director on various films, and from 1938 to 1966 he was the chief artist of the film studio and at the same time the manager of the stage department.
Vatsadze also created many paintings (portraits, landscapes, still lifes).
He worked with such directors as Mikheil Chiaureli, Siko Dolidze, David Rondel, Leo Esakia, Shota Managadze and others.
1975 A personal exhibition of his works was organized in Tbilisi.
Serapion Vatsadze died in 1967.
